A random beach dog pays us a purely coincidental visit as we take a picnic lunch on Chesterman Beach
near Tofino B.C. He brings to mind my old dog, Whipper, a basset/Lab cross, who was my buddy when I
was young, 40 years ago. He was the size of a Lab and jet black in colour, but the rest was all basset.
A rather odd combination, but he had a heart of gold and infinite patience. He loved to run the beaches
f Vancouver Islands west coast. He was a real beach dog and a great friend. Mark Heine
