Sarah, my youngest daughter, here almost 11, is trying out her new wetsuit and boogie board
in the surf off South Chesterman Beach near Tofino, B.C. It’s August 2009. The surf’s up and,
with Dad’s encouragement, she ventures out into the second break, where the waves are
12 feet tall and quite intimidating. The day starts cautiously, on a boogie board, but will end with 
er standing on a surfboard. She’s better at it than I am.    Mark Heine
