I lived on Chesterman Beach, seen here, during a six-month winter sabbatical in the 1980s, in an amazing cottage
built of massive yellow cedar beams. It’s where I got my first taste of figure painting using oil on canvas. In later years,
I would revisit that challenge, through these paintings of my children. In the 1980s, two tourists walking on the beach
was a clear sign that the weekend had arrived. Four tourists meant Valentine’s Day.   Mark Heine
