prix olympia 2009, bronze medal

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has just announced that the 2006 Winter Olympic stamps,
painted by Mark Heine for Canada Post, in collaboration with Vancouver graphic designer Susan Mavor,
will receive the Prix Olympia 2009 Bronze Medal.

The art involved in-depth research into the technical specifics of the two sports. “This is one of the reasons
I believe our stamps were chosen, as the depiction of athletic accuracy is one of the things the judges are looking for.“
says Mavor. Other criteria include presentation technique, use of colour and overall artistic quality.

Mavor will receive the medal and official diploma during three days of Olympic design-related events
this October in Copenhagen. The award will be presented by IOC President Jacques Rogge and
Honorary President for Life, Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Based on the success of these Canadian post stamps, Mark Heine was recently commissioned to create 2 oil paintings
for the Post Office of Liechtenstein. This new impressionistic style artwork depicts alpine and downhill ski athletes,
of Liechtenstein's "2010 Vancouver" Olympic team. These stamps are now available, released in conjunction with the
opening of Vancouver's 2010 Olympic Games.
